Initial investigations for epilepsy in children, young people and adults must include the MRI scan within six weeks of the MRI referral. CT scan should not be carried out for people after a typical seizure, unless there are other concerns. And, EEG should done as soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours of the seizure. The treatment with an ASM should begin once the diagnosis of the epilepsy is confirmed. Sodium valproate as first line monotherapy for generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Consider lamotrigine or levetiracetam as first line monotherapy for focal seizures with or without evolution to bilateral Tonic-clonic seizures.
