Recommendations for the treatment of epilepsy in adult and paediatric patients. Epilepsy affects approximately 50,000,000 people worldwide. It begins with AED monotherapy, in case of failure, the second monotherapy or an add-on will be suggested. If this fails, the patient is referred to the tertiary care centre. The selection is based on seizure type/syndrome, age, sex, childbearing potential, comorbidities, concomitant medications, adverse effects, and interaction profile. Next, the diagnosis is re-evaluated by respective surgery, additional drug trials, neurostimulatory and dietary approaches.
