Virtual Training Courses

A university accredited virtual promotional training course held over 2.5 days that supports healthcare professionals who are managing people with Type 2 diabetes on more complex regimens, including GLP-1 and insulin initiation.

Programme summary

Expect a variety of different topics on devices, insulins and other injectable therapies including:

• Revision of diabetes oral medications
• GLP-1 agonists including initiation using a structured care pathway
• Detective work at review appointments focusing on injectables
• Insulin safety (self-directed learning)
• Working through the PITstop insulin pathway to assess for insulin, initiate an appropriate insulin regimen and support the patient for the first 6 months: a case study approach
• Dietary considerations and insulin, including minimising weight gain
• Embedding the learning and university accreditation

Who is this course suitable for?

GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists and Physician Associates (who are working as part of a practice diabetes team), already experienced in providing a diabetes service. Only HCPs who are patient facing and have the ability to initiate and prescribe injectables post the course should apply.

New to post DSNs identified as requiring training at this level, may also be suitable for this course.

Delegates must have completed a diabetes course to foundation level or be able to provide evidence of self-directed learning, focusing on the oral diabetes medication pathway.  Suitable courses include Pre-PITstop, Warwick Certificate in Diabetes or Bradford Diabetes Certificate. You will be required to evidence this within your application.

Delegates will be required to have a named mentor in place to support completion of the competency framework post the course.  Details of the mentor will be required at the application process.  New to PITstop mentors will be invited to complete a ½ day mentor workshop by PITstop.

This educational programme is organised and funded by Sanofi. The PITstop for Diabetes course content has been independently developed and will be delivered by PITstop for Diabetes on behalf of Sanofi. Sanofi have had no input or involvement in the creation of these materials but has reviewed the content to ensure compliance with the ABPI code of practice. Adverse event reporting and prescribing information is available at the meetings.
