Overcoming the Struggles of Gaucher Disease: Deepesh Kumar’s Journey to Wellness

In this video, Deepesh Kumar, a 19-year-old, shares his journey of battling Gaucher disease. Starting in 2013, he experienced chronic fevers, stomach pain, vomiting, and nosebleeds, which led to him dropping out of school for a year. After struggling with symptoms from a young age, including high fevers, he was unable to get a proper diagnosis until he was referred to CMC Vellore. There, genetic testing confirmed he had Gaucher disease, a rare genetic condition. The doctors informed him that treatment existed but was expensive and long-term. Deepesh began enzyme therapy at AIIMS Delhi, initially receiving treatment for 2 months, followed by regular sessions every 6 months. Thanks to the therapy, Deepesh’s health has improved significantly. His enlarged spleen returned to normal, and he no longer experiences headaches or weakness. He now leads a healthy and normal life.
