Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy Syndromes - (ILAE: 2022)

Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy (IGE) accounts for 5%-20% of people with epilepsy. The four ways to distinguish the IGE syndromes - childhood absence, juvenile absence, juvenile myoclonic, generalized tonic-clonic seizures alone. Conclusion that recognition of the IGEs is important for clinical care, as it informs diagnosis, prevents unnecessary investigation, allows optimal selection of ASMs, and provides prognostic guidance.
